What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Botox (or botulinum toxin A) is a substance which, when injected, can dull signals between the brain and muscles. The treatment was initially developed in a medical context to treat twitches and muscle spasms, but its effects were soon noted on skin that showed signs of wrinkles and lines. Because the treatment reduced movement in the skin, expressions appeared softer and as a result, the complexion appears more youthful.
How safe are anti-wrinkle injections?
Any injectable treatment comes with mild risks, like infection, redness, bruising, swelling and general tenderness. We keep these to a minimum thanks to our understanding of facial anatomy, advanced injection techniques and premium fine needles. Serious side effects from Botox are extremely rare. However, we will always discuss risks with our clients ahead of any treatment.
Where is Botox used?
We often carry out anti-wrinkle injections on the face (think brows, forehead and eyes) but we can also administer them to the chin to combat a “bulky” jaw, or the neck to reduce lines and bands.
Who can have Botox?
Most people over 18 can have Botox injections, subject to a consultation. Depending on your lines and wrinkles, we sometimes suggest an alternative treatment – dermal fillers. That’s because not all lines are associated with movements and expressions; some are to do with the general ageing of the skin and loss of volume.
What happens during a Botox consultation?
