How Long Does A Tooth Implant Last

Tooth implants are a well-known solution for tooth loss. But, there are lots to learn about the procedure, aftercare, pros and cons and results. Today, we’re sharing our knowledge and insights to help you decide on your care. And if you’d like any help or advice relating to any of our treatments, just ask.

Tooth implants explained

For those of you who are new to the procedure, tooth implants are false teeth that are permanently implanted into your mouth. This gives them a strong foundation for life, and they’re known for being a highly successful and durable option for your smile. Tooth implants are also called dental implants – we’ll probably use both terms in this post.

Reasons for tooth loss

People can lose teeth for many reasons, whether it’s being careless playing sports or neglecting their oral health. Whatever it is, we’ll help replace it, without any judgement and focus on the future and how to care for your smile now.

Tooth implant results

Before getting into the detail of the procedure, it’s good to know what to expect from your results. After all, this will be a big reason many people decide to have them. Your results will look natural; will fit perfectly in your mouth; will be long-lasting and durable, and can even be in place for a lifetime.

Dental implants aftercare

Your dental implant is placed in two parts; the root, and then the crown. A period of healing is needed in between, and after both appointments, you’ll also need to follow detailed aftercare. This helps the implant to fuse properly with the underlying tissues, and also means there’s a higher chance of success (though as we’ve mentioned, most cases are successful).

Dental implants pros and cons

Many people only focus on the positives, but at our dental practice in West Sussex, we’ll tell the whole story. With dental implants, there’s a slim possibility it won’t ‘take’. And, as with any procedure, there’s always a risk of infection. However, you can also look forward to some fantastic benefits – eating, smiling, talking, laughing and chewing just as you once did, without any noticeable gaps in your smile

Tooth implants and how they’re placed

The procedure for dental implants involves an incision, a small hole, and then the root part of the implant inserting. The crown is placed once this has all healed, with a temporary solution to wear in the meantime. Most patients don’t experience discomfort during the procedure and we use a local anaesthetic in the area.
